Sora: The Award-Winning Digital Reading App

Eisenhower students and parents can use Sora, the digital reading app, to access a wide range of age-appropriate ebooks, audiobooks, and other digital content from our school library and from 25 San Jose Public Libraries.

  • Access Sora: Students and parents can access Sora by downloading the Sora app on their smartphones or tablets or by visiting the Sora website on a computer. The app is available for both iOS and Android devices.

  • Log in or create an account: Students will need to log in to Sora using their school credentials, such as their student ID or library card. Parents may need to coordinate with their child's school to obtain the necessary login information.

  • Find their school library: Once logged in, students can search for their school library by name, location, or school district. They can also scan a QR code provided by their school to connect to their library.

  • Browse and borrow books: After connecting to their school library, students and parents can browse the available collection of ebooks, audiobooks, and other digital content. They can search for specific titles, authors, or genres or explore curated collections.

  • Borrow and read: When they find a book they want to read, students can borrow it by tapping on the cover and selecting the "Borrow" option. Borrowed books will be added to their personal bookshelf.

  • Customize reading preferences: Sora allows users to customize their reading experience. Students can adjust text size, font, background color, and more to suit their preferences and reading needs.

  • Read or listen offline: Sora offers an offline reading feature, which enables students to download books to their device and read them even when they don't have an internet connection. This is useful for reading during commutes or in areas with limited connectivity.

  • Highlight, take notes, and define words: Sora provides tools for students to highlight text, take notes, and look up definitions of unfamiliar words while reading. These features can enhance the learning experience and help with comprehension.

  • Return borrowed books: At the end of the borrowing period, typically set by the school or library, borrowed books will be automatically returned. However, students can also return books early if they finish reading them before the due date.

  • Discover recommendations and track progress: Sora offers personalized book recommendations based on a student's reading history. Students can also track their reading progress, view reading stats, and earn badges for achievements.

It's important to note that the specific features and functionalities of Sora may vary depending on the school or library's implementation of the app. Students and parents should consult their school or library for any additional guidelines or instructions regarding the use of Sora.
